The Duke is seeking an experienced hands-on General Manager to lead one of Sydney’s most recognised late-night pub and live music venues.
A bastion of live music, strong drinks, and long nights, The Duke is a cornerstone of Enmore’s cultural and nighttime economy. This role suits a people-focused hospitality leader who combines operational excellence, compliance expertise and commercial discipline with a genuine passion for culture, community and guest experience.
Located in the Inner West’s Special Entertainment Precinct, The Duke delivers an always free program of local and international artists and plays a central role in the local live music ecosystem.
About the Role:
This is a full time General Manager position with full accountability for people, operations, compliance, and financial performance.
You will be a visible leader on the floor, ensuring the venue operates safely, compliantly and profitably while maintaining its reputation as a respected live music and late-night destination.
Responsibilities
- Lead from the front as a visible, engaged presence on the floor
- Recruit, train, mentor, and retain a high performing venue team
- Create a safe, supportive and accountable workplace culture.
- Maintain impeccable liquor licensing, compliance, and safety standards.
- Oversee day-to-day operations, systems, and service delivery.
- Manage budgets, cost control, forecasting and KPIs.
- Write effective rosters that balance operational needs and team wellbeing.
- Ensure accurate cash handling, reporting, and back of house administration.
- Work with security contractors to maintain a respectful, compliant environment.
- Support and enhance live music and entertainment through strong operational execution.
- Demonstrate sound judgement, attention to detail, and calm problem-solving in a fast- paced late-night environment.
About You
- A people-first leader who values longevity, stability and team growth
- Proven General Manager or Licensee experience, or are a senior operations manager ready to step up
- Demonstrated experience managing compliance in licensed hospitality venues.
- Organised, accountable, and comfortable taking full ownership of venue standards and performance
- Confident working autonomously while collaborating with senior leadership
- Experienced in late-night trade, live music or high-energy venues (highly regarded)
